(July 6, 2015) Koe no Katachi manga licensed by Kodansha Comics! The Koe no Katachi manga series will be released in English by Kodansha Comics under the title A Silent Voice.(May 26, 2015) The story opens up to a new audience! The first volume of Koe no Katachi has been released in English by Kodansha Comics.(October 10, 2015) Kyoto Animation to produce Koe no Katachi film! This year's 46th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine revealed that the theatrical film will be produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Naoko Yamada.(September 17, 2016) Koe no Katachi film released in Japan! The film opened at #2 in the Japanese box office.
The series isn't about happiness, it's about gut-wrenching feelings and how they are handled by the characters. The series tackles real issues that are not easy to deal with in a society and these issues have largely been overcome. The issue is that the series takes on a rather bold yet accurate take on isolationism and some of the feelings it gives. Many of the characters could work together in the future with criss-crossing careers in media. One or both of the main characters could work at the family salon, and probably would. There are some things left open for a possible manga expansion of an arc or two. There is a distinct lack of romance as the entire series highlights isolationism, friendship, and the core of love. Obviously option A will not be happening here. It seems to be a trend that very popular or successful series come back for a few issues after close to either A) Do a completely inappropriate spa/nude/harem style scene that doesn't fit the manga,or other such silliness that makes no sense to the story or B) Tie up loose ends and show what happens along important character arcs.
